Introduction
Grand Ole Opry’s newest member and American Idol alum Scotty McCreery is sharing his deep passion for country music with someone very special—his young son.
Since tying the knot with his beloved wife Gabi in 2018, the couple’s lives transformed beautifully with the arrival of their precious baby boy in October 2022. They thoughtfully named him Merrick Avery McCreery, a name rich with family heritage. “Merrick” honors Gabi’s paternal grandfather, while “Avery” pays tribute to North Carolina’s Avery County, a place the McCreerys have come to cherish as their beloved home.
The heartwarming journey of fatherhood has been well-documented by the “Five More Minutes” hitmaker through numerous social media posts featuring little Avery (as they affectionately call him). Fans have been treated to adorable glimpses of their blossoming father-son relationship—from Scotty patiently teaching his boy the fundamentals of golf to their joyful car rides filled with music and laughter. These precious moments between them reflect a bond that continues to strengthen with each passing day.
Fatherhood has not only brought personal joy to McCreery but has also sparked a new creative chapter in his musical career. The country star has channeled his experiences as a dad into touching songs like “Porch” and “Love Like This,” heartfelt tributes clearly inspired by the profound love he feels for his son. Through both his music and his everyday life, Scotty is ensuring that country music’s rich traditions live on in the heart of young Avery.

Avery McCreery Sings George Strait
In an adorable video shared on social media, Scotty and Avery are in what appears to be a home recording studio. With his sweet little voice, the toddler sings:
“Excuse me, but I think you’ve got my chair.”
Keen country music fans will recognize that this is the opening line of George Strait’s 1985 hit, “The Chair.” The song went to #1 on both the US and Canadian country charts and was certified platinum by the RIAA. Additionally, CMT ranked “The Chair” as #24 on their Top 100 Country Songs of All Time list.
The video clearly shows that Avery has been exposed to the classics. Scotty himself recalls listening to Merle Haggard, George Jones, and Conway Twitty as a child.
He asks his son, “Who sings that song?”
Avery answers definitively, “George Strait.“
